Randolph-Sheppard Act

Legal Information Institute
Last Update: 16 Aug 2016

This federal law gives legally blind vendors advantages over other vendors who operate vending facilities (e.g., vending machines, cafeterias, and snack bars) on federal property. The Act establishes a vending business program in each state, often referred to as the Business Enterprise Program (BEP). The BEP is designed to provide self-employment opportunities for qualified legally blind individuals. The Public Health Law Center has published a fact sheet about the Act and what the law means for healthy vending efforts.
